I recently bought a dual processor Powermac g4 1 ghz with 1 gb ram, 160 gb hd, and standard video card(64) with superdrive for 220 + 60 shipping. I plan to use this for video editing, photoshop work, and light mac gaming. I also plan to do a historical documentary project type thing complete with video of my dad(who is 87) talking about his experiences and impressions of people, places, and things over his lifetime. I will be scanning all of his old old old pics and trying to use photoshop to do restoration where needed(some are in bad shape). I have been doing video on an iMac g3 500 and iMovie 2 and OS 9 making videos for youtube. It was fine doing the actual editing, but unless I rendered output for a cd(15 fps 320x240) it literally takes about 750 minutes. And thats just for 640x480 at 30 fps. I know the g4 is considered an obsolete processor. But I'm willing to tolerate waiting for an output render for a few hours. But literally, for 30 mins of video at low resolution(cd quality) it takes 3 hours on the imac. My plan has been and is to do these "quickie exports" to send to friends and mentors to evaluate the process and to suggest improvements in my technique(which is bad but slowly getting better). So, for what my planned uses are, did I make a good pick? And can anyone suggest better software, versions, etc. to help me make good use of this machine?
