CHINA
At first glance this is a very expensive product, it is sold at 39 USD in the US, and 329 CNY in China.

However, if we look at its tech specs, it's among the first batch of new generation chargers with AVS (adjustable voltage supply) ***. This is also known as USB PD 3.2 PPS. Some say it is developed by Apple, and licensed (free?) to other parties. 3rd party charger manufacturers have not yet released their versions of the new protocol charger, some speculate that they would have to get a permission from Apple to release those products, even if Apple is not going to charge extra on the license fees (sounds very complicated and perhaps untrue, maybe it's because the new protocol requires higher cost to produce and the manufacturers are waiting for a better cost/sales point).

Currently, only two offerings are available in the market, one being Google's new Pixel Flex Dual Port 67W USB-C Fast Charger, and the other is this Apple one.

The pixel one offers two usb-c ports, with a very compelling power distribution when both ports are used.
Up to 67W on Port 1 or Port 2, when only 1 device is connected
Up to 60W on Port 1 or Port 2, when 2 devices are connected
Up to 67.5W Port 1 + Port 2 output, when 2 devices are connected

While the Apple one promises a base 40w and flexible up to 60w for one single port.

Price wise, the google one is 59.99 USD, now I suddenly feel how American (geek) friends see Apple's offers sometimes...not a bad price tho, while if you say "pay 50% more for one more port" is also justifiable I'd also agree (just like moving from 50ml to 100ml in regards of fragrances).

But should you get this charger? I think for the new 17 Pro/Pro Max users, this is a compelling purchase. As for older models, one video suggest that using a 30w charger, somehow (maybe an error?) you could already top up from 0% to 50% in 20 minutes? Just FYI.

15 PM charged from 0 to 50 in 20 min via 30w charger

Note, in this video, the original poster stated that the 15 Pro Max is at 90% battery health after 1 year's use, and she used a third party 30w charger.

So, for myself, I ordered one 40w charger, and I'd test it with the 17 Pro when they both arrive. However, I truly doubt it would be significantly greater than any 3rd party 40w+ or 60w+ PD chargers out there, maybe only the new tech sounded very premium and could protect the battery in the long run --- for the high precision trickling of voltage when charging.

Notes
*** AVS is not new, it is already available on many laptop adapters, but before PD 3.2 PPS, that was exclusive to the so-called EPR (Extended Power Range), which basically means above 100w. In PD 3.2 PPS, SDR(Standard Power Range, <100w) support for AVS is introduced, so this is why it is "new" here. Just FYI, to picky techy geeks. :)

I tested it with my iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPad Pro 12.9 (5th gen), and it charges at 40w:

I need to do some further testing to see what it does when both the iPhone and the iPad are very low, like under 20%, but I suspect this power adapter can only do the 60w on newer devices like the iPhone 17.

It's a really nice form factor though, even better than the little 20w power adapter that used to be included with iPads, since the prongs fold in, yet, it can do up to the 60w boost with the right (new) devices.

I’ve gone for the Google Pixel Flex 67W as it’s the only charger that supports dynamic charging PD3.2 in the UK currently. I’ll report back over the weekend

As we don’t have Apple’s Dynamic charger available in the UK, I bought the Pixel Flex 67W which also supports AVS and PD 3.2

I saw a peak charging output of 37W at 10% SoC, dropping to 24W at 40%. This is a 27% increase on the 16 Pro Max

If anyone’s interested, when the peak charging rate was achieved, I saw 46m to 80%

Note: the peak wattage I received on my 16 Pro Max previously was 29W.

I’ll be comparing this with a ‘regular’ 96W Apple charger over the weekend…

Are you able to test Apples Dynamic charger? I’d love to see the results!
Tested…
