Somewhere over the rainbow
I've had a S4/wifi for a couple years and been very happy. It's the gold in aluminum 44. I decided I wanted to try the cellular version for a change, so I've got a S7/cellular 45 coming in a few days. As I often do, I find myself spending the days between ordering and receiving the package wondering if I'll have buyer's remorse.

First off, I'm thinking I'll appreciate the difference between the S4 and S7. And I'm curious to try cellular - there have been more than a few times I wish I could've gone phoneless.

I really, really like the gold aluminum color of the S4, especially (but not only) with the gold Milanese band. But I didn't want to splurge on the gold stainless steel version of the S7 (and prefer the look of aluminum to SS, TBH). I spent a long time considering the colors and finally decided that the starlight would look good with the various colors of the bands I have. It's coming with a dark cherry (I think it's called in English, it's kirsesbær in Norwegian) sports band. I thought that combination looked very good.

I've never been a fan of the silver aluminum color (I had one), but the starlight looks to be a bit "deeper" of a color - not quite as harsh as the aluminum silver. I figured it would blend well with just about any band.

Those of you who have starlight, do you agree? Does the color blend well with the bands you have?

(I'm planning on keeping my gold S4 until I have a chance to wear the S7 for a few days, and might even end up keeping both.)

The series 7 is going to be a very nice upgrade from the series 4. I didn't get the Starlight but, I did look at it in store after I got my Series 7 and if I had to do it over, I would have gone with Starlight. I agree with your assessment of the Starlight versus the silver. I did get the dark cherry band and it does look very nice. It will look great with your Starlight.

As to your series 4, I would keep it for sleep tracking / emergency backup. I did the same with my series 6.

I upgraded from the Series 4 silver aluminum cellular to the Series 7 Starlight cellular and like it better. I think it goes with more bands and I love the look of it more and more ever since I‘ve gotten it.

I ♥ the Starlight. It looks like silver with sunlight always on it. Here’s mine with a graphite milanese band.

I upgraded from a rose gold S4 (and previously had a rose gold S3) to a starlight with cherry band. I love the new color. I think because I had rose gold for four years I just needed a change, but I didn't like any of the other colors ever. My daughter had a regular silver S3 and also got starlight. It's a nice hybrid between silver and gold, IMO, and I wear both colors for jewelry anyway. I will get a lighter band for spring/summer, but the cherry color goes with a lot my clothes.

That looks really nice, thank you for posting the pic!

Good to hear that you experience the color as a hybrid between silver and gold. That's what I was hoping for.

Lots of positive comments about Starlight.

I looked at Starlight on the iPad mini - initially online, then in a real shop. And hated it. But, in the online pictures of watches, it looks OK and definitely nicer than some other aluminium colours.

i think this is true in a lot of devices. i loved rose gold on the watch and phone but hated it on laptops.

I also have a S4 which I still absolutely love. My questions to those of you who upgraded from the S4 to the S7 is this... outside of the new color option and additional health monitoring, is it really that much of an "upgrade"? Just curious before I go out and get one. Thanks in advance.

I went from an S4 to S6, and for me, it was a very worthwhile upgrade. I imagine going to an S7, you get all the benefits of S6 plus a larger screen, so it would be a significant upgrade. The new monitors and sensors are nice, but for me, the best thing was improved battery life. I used to have to charge the S4 twice a day in order to wear it to bed to monitor my sleep. The S6 easily lasts 24+ hours on a single charge. The S7 should be the same, and it's supposed to charge even faster with the included charging puck.

I loved my S4 and gave it to my son when I upgraded to the S7. I think it is a worthy upgrade. Just being able to text alone is huge, but the screen is nicer, it is always on, blood oxygen, etc… it is an upgrade you will notice IMHO.

Going from s4 to s7 is a great idea. Starlight is a beautiful color that changes from silver to light gold in different light settings. Congrats!

Although I haven't been on aluminium for any of my previous watches, I just jumped from the SS S4 to a SB Ti S7 and the upgrade is amazing! Fast, bigger display, more sensors for O2 and always on display.

Single thing I don't think is an upgrade: The auto-dimming of the display. They started doing that from S5 as far as I have read, and it makes it a lot less bright than my previous S4

The biggest issue I've noticed is battery when on cellular. I've solved that by only turning on cellular when I have a reason to have it on. My plan was to give my son my S4, but he's still happy with the S3 silver aluminum I gave him. So for now I'll hang on to both.

I wasn't even aware of being able to send texts from the S7, that's really nice. I used it for the first time today.

Those of you who have two - do you just leave the one you're not wearing on the charger, or do you take it off once it gets to 100%? I'm wondering about battery health.
