What are you thoughts on me reconfiguring my MP setup.

From: boot drive (640) + 3x640 hd (data)
To: 4x640 RAID 0 (i have time machine backup)

I was thinking i want to take advantage of the speed of RAID for application launch, as well as capture the unused disk space (apps and whatnot take about 50gig)

Any thoughts on badness or goodness of this change?

So long as you have the backup in place, give it a shot. You'd almost certainly love it, and never look back. :D

am checking out backups now.. to make sure i didn't forget anything. zapped an image of boot drive so that is ready to go.

try SSD for boot speed and fast App launch...

The prices are still up there for solid state disks, but if you're looking for speed, that's your best and safest option; especially since the boot disk need not be large. An adapter is sold that allows you to place one in a Mac Pro.

I'm not sure if all of the disks in a Software RAID-0 stay constantly spinning or if they doze off when not in use, but my two internal RAID-0 HD's take a moment to get up to speed. As far as "unused disk space" goes, it always good to not totally fill up any HD.
