Thoughts on website design...

I hope that's not a sign of how this is going to work in the future. It's not working for me either.
 
hmmm...really? Both click through fine for me. And no, this is just an image preview, has nothing to do with the final site hosting etc.

I'll try it again later on today...
 
It looks like a corrupt jpg....like you changed the extension or something. I've seen this happen on my server before and it's usually because it wasn't saved properly.
 
Works fine for me. The first one looks cheesy with the header that includes an indian and a globe or something to the left.

the first however looks more business like

Would it really not display? I'm no genius when it comes to CMYK or RGB, just know that one is for print while the later is for digital display you could say. Interesting.
 
Definitely the second one. I've spent a lot of this week looking up conferences for our company to attend/speak at, and I can tell you I hate having to read about every single update on the main page. Most people are going to want the dates, who can/is attending, and how to register and then access to other information.

The second one looks great!! Love the design, very clean and nice.
 
I like elements of both designs - maybe you could combine them a bit. I was bored so I took about a half hour and came up with the image below - feel free to borrow from it as much as you'd like.

I like Daringescape's version.

(except I would trim the height of the radar header area a bit. Prob. reduce the size of the radar as well.)
 
Personally I like the second one a bit more, although it has some clear errors in it, for example look at the attached picture. The NavBar is WAY too big and takes up too much space, if you made it smaller you would fix the problem and have more room for content. I edited your image to what the NavBar should look like in my opinion.

thanks to those who could view if for your comments. I also liked the variation that was created - thanks. The one thing I probably should have mentioned is that the client wanted a native appeal (person) as an option, ie first draft and also specified that they did not want it too corporate looking as things up that way are a bit more relaxed in business. nonetheless, I will likely leave the second draft as is and then also create another by playing around with it and perhaps incorporating some of the ideas in Daringescape's (just a little less corporate) as per the client and emorydunn - both good ideas and points.

For some reason it is the browser, if you are using Firefox it does not work, if you use Safari it does...

I personally prefer the first site listed. (The one ending in web2us8.) I prefer the colour scheme as the second is too washed out and grey for my liking whereas the bluey sort of colour on the first is both more appealing and professional looking. Also, I prefer the style of the links bar on the first with the simple horizontal approach instead of the oversized box on the second which also has a horrible blue colour (imo).
I just wanted to say that this isn't in anyway a professional opinion. I have no experience in creating sites. This is just my basic idea to try and give you a perspective of an everyday person. Hope it helps!
 
sure, I can understand. All I did is save for web as jpeg from photoshop and then upload to imageshack.us to host the image for people to view.

not sure what is going on and why it only works in safari and not firefox? any suggestions, so I will know for next time?
