I am becoming increasingly interested in thread for HomeKit, abs am considering getting a HomePod mini and Nanoleaf bulb to test it out. My history with Bluetooth and WiFi HomeKit devices is mixed, abs I’m hopeful this will be an improvement. How does thread connect to the multi group project CHOIP? I don’t know any to get a lot of hardware now if there is some big thing around the corner. Home automation is hard to keep track of!

think of thread as fancy and beefed up wifi. It prioritizes reliability and lower power usage over bandwidth.

it's another way to distribute IP packets. Any protocol that works on wifi or ethernet, will also work on thread

CHOIP is just a way for devices to communicate using IP, and thread works with IP, so draw your own conclusions.

and, if you go to the CHOIP page, it says they plan to include thread in their spec.

Thanks! It looks like device manufacturers need to update things to turn on thread. Here’s hoping a few more so in addition to eve and Nanoleaf!

I have the HomePod mini using the Nanoleaf Essential light bulbs (using Thread). They work great, fast response, easy setup and no issues.
