Three Finger Dictionary Gesture Be Pissing Me Off!

I am having some really irritating problems with this gesture (three finger double tap for definition). No matter how hard I try I'm not consistently getting the gesture to work.

I mean sometimes when I randomly do it, it works. But otherwise when I'm actually trying it doesn't work. I mean I tried everything- lighter clicks (and taps), fast-slow - everything, but no consistent result.

Any ideas, or tips? Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

It works for me under Safari, iCal and Mail, but not for other apps like Firefox, etc.

Correction: It works in TextEdit.

You can select and two-finger click, then choose the definition from the popup menu, as a workaround.

Works in TextEdit, but not in Firefox. Interestingly, neither does my workaround: 'Look Up' doesn't appear in the context menu when a word is selected in FF.

Having done a bit of testing, it does seem to be a temperamental gesture; and the only rule I can work out is that it usually does it when I mean it, but not always when I'm 'testing'. It's like it can tell when you're not sincere.

Oh I knew about that "workaround", but that wasn't the point. With the gesture it would so much more accessible. Only for me it's not as responsive as I would want it to be..

I take your point, but it's only a click less accessible - two-finger tap on a word, choose 'Look Up...'

Clicks are spawns of evil. I find it offensive you take their side.

It's working great for me. Maybe try a wider spread of the fingers?
