Thrustmaster USB Joystick not working with apps

On my iMac with OSX Mojave, the thrustmaster USB joystick appears as a Game controller in the System Report. The "Joystick Show" app indicates that the joystick functions work. I am however unable to use the joystick in various flight simulation apps downloaded from the App Store. Any idea how to make it work ?
