A couple of months ago I posted about how stable this forum site is. The Apple discussion forum is up / down / SLOW. Over the past couple of months this site has been rock solid - compliments again for the design, infrastructure and operation. Alas - the Apple discussions forum has been so slow in connecting over the last couple of days that one would consider it down.

GREAT job MacRumors - keep it up.

Any chance I can get my avatar early now

Well - the Apple discussions are once again unavailable with the often displayed mesage : Sorry unavailable.........back online soon"

They really should replace the team responsible for their discussions forum.

They seem to use a Java-based server-side application to run the discussions.

Does anybody know what kinds of problems cause them to be down? I'd guess it's software glitches, since it seems even less likely that they have hardware trouble or that they'd shut it down on purpose.

1:45 pm PDT and still down.

The Apple forum has been having slow downs for several days - my guess is that this is not a planned outage.

They were down over the Christmas and New Year's season with developing a new face, but it took forever. Unfortunately, this seems to be the norm. Any remark perceived in a negative or "non pertinent" light can cost the poster/member up to -30 points or suspension. It's a good, technical site, but the administrative strong arming over the past year+ has alienated some of the frequents. I much prefer the latitude and mixture of available tech input and community posting offered by MR and, the site remains stable.

Bad move dude. Every time you complain about the 500 post 'tar requirement, it goes up 100 posts.

I was just about ready to congratulate a member for having thumbs.

Now I want to test out my new design for thumb screws.

What a waste of a thumbs up.

Damm - thought I had kissed up enough to the Mods to move ahead :)

Oooh, really bad move. Embarrass the mods. I think that tripples the normal 100 penalty increase. :D

At this rate, you might, just might, be able to get a 'tar at about 1,200 posts Apple Corps. ;) :D just kidding. :)

At my non-prolific posting rate I'll make 500 by 2013 or so

BTW - Apple discussion site back up for a short while and down again - really underscores how solid MR is.

I'll cease further posts on this topic - don't want to drive my count too high :)

LOL :D At least you will get there, eventually. :)

You make a good point, MR is very solid and reliable. Which is good, because every time MR does crash, many of us go through withdrawl syptoms. :D

I love the fact that Apple has no jurisdiction at MacRumors. I believe it opens up the discussions and even the troubleshooting threads since effectively nothing is taboo (within reason, of course that excludes jsw's pillow talk).

I would have replied to you sooner, mad jew, but I had to have this comment pre-approved by my supervisor at Apple Headquarters. ;)
