ThunderBird: Mail Download - Newest First.

How do i get ThunderBird to get to download my newest mail first during startup? I got a very slow connection and its virtually starting to download stuff from 2001.
Thanks.

BTW anyone got any better suggestion for a Mail app?
Apple Mail is kinda out cause it can't sync with Hotmail.
