This article does not speak well for ThunderBird mail and also probably for my favorite TenFourBird.

No it does not bode well. It will be a tough choice to make in the future for my business accounts. We use Google Apps for business email, but Gmail's threading is unacceptable (perhaps this has changed since I looked a year ago).

I am considering testing Postbox (http://www.postbox-inc.com/) as a replacement. Apple mail would be great if it were more customizable too.

I don't think it's going to implode and mysteriously disappear from every computer just because they're not putting more money into it. I think it's going to be continued by the users, like the hope!
