I'm just migrating stuff from my windows box to my new 24" imac.

On my windows machine I used Thunderbird to manage my email.

On my mac i want to use Apple Mail. How would i go about importing my old thunderbird files to Mail?

Thanks

Yes, and you might try and export, move and import them, but that is not as easy as setting up an IMAP account and move the messages using that account. (Then you might discard the IMAP account once the messages are moved.) :)

if you are using IMAP, why bother transfer from TB, setup IMAP in mail.app is easier.

The thing is, you set up the IMAP account in Thunderbird first, then move all your messages to the IMAP server, then set up the IMAP in Mail, and voila, all the messages are available... then you can download the messages to a folder/mailbox and then decide if you want to keep the IMAP account or not... ;)

the messages are stored on the local computer

Why not use Thunderbird on your Mac? Later, if you decide you want to change, you should be able to import the mail to Apple's mail application.

yeah, i'm thinking of maybe going this route for now since i'm so comfortable with the way that Thunderbird works.
