Will it degrade the performance of the whole chain to Thunderbolt 1 speeds?

I want to connect the Thunderbolt 2 input on the iMac 5k to a Lacie 5big (thunderbolt 1) raid array. Does that mean that anything connected to the Lacie will be in Thunderbolt 1 speeds?

Thanks.

I believe you are correct. So what device besides 4K video needs more that TB1 transport?

On think to consider....TB1 or USB3 are way faster as transports that the native read/write speeds of SATA III HDD. If the drives were SSDs connected via PCIe.....then the TB1 could be the bottleneck.
