Hello

I have 2014 Mid Macbook Pro Retina and it has Thunderbolt 2.

I am trying to buy a external monitor for my laptop but I want to know if I can connect via Thunderbolt 2 from my laptop to monitor with adapter (Maybe to USB-C port) and use monitor's USB port for, mouse, and other peripherals and monitor's audio output for my external speaker so I can just leave plugged to my monitor, not my laptop.

Or Is it something that only new Macbook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) can do?

Thank you for your input.
