Dear all,

I own two Thunderbolt 4 SSDs and have connected them to my iPad Pro 12.9 (1TB) M4. Both SSDs are connected to the iPad Pro at a speed of around 1500 Mbps (for both write and read operations). However, I recently discovered that my iPad Pro has 16 GB of RAM and supports Thunderbolt/USB4 with speeds exceeding 3000 Mbps. My Samsung 990 Pro SSD even advertised the speed can reach to over 7000 Mbps. I’m curious about the reason behind this difference and if anyone else has experienced similar performance variations.

Additionally, I’m concerned about the performance of my system. I’ve noticed that I’ve used all the available parallel Thunderbolt levels from the SSD to the cable. Could you please advise on how to optimize my system’s performance?

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Henry

USB4 on iPad Pro tops out at 40Gpbs (i.e. 5000Mbps) but in real world usage you will see even less. What brand & model & specs of enclosures are you using w/ your SSD's?

Thanks for reply. I use one

SSD Samsung 990 Pro 4TB PCIe Gen 4.0 x4 NVMe V-NAND M.2 2280 MZ-V9P4T0BW and 1 Lacie Rugged Mini Pro 2TB Thunderbolt 3. All of them support to have extremely fast over read 3000MBs but slow speed still occured.
