I'll soon be using an Apple 23" ACD (DVI) with a MiniDP --> DVI adapter connected to my thunderbolt port on my mid-2012 cMBP. Thunderbolt specifications allow for a non-thunderbolt display to connect to a thunderbolt chain/array as long as it is the last connection/object in the chain. The question is, since I'm using a MiniDP to DVI adapter, can I still have video if it's the last object in a thunderbolt chain? I just want to make sure I didn't just waste the thunderbolt port on a monitor only; I want to eventually have more objects in the chain.

Yes, the only exception is that you can't connect it directly into the back of a Thunderbolt display without a non-display Thunderbolt device in between.
