I'm getting more serious into photography lately and considering purchasing the 28" Apple Thunderbolt Display.

Should I worry that Apple would release a newer version soon?

How often do they release new displays?

They may be about to release a new one actually, but other than being thinner (like the iMacs), having Thunderbolt 2, and probably MagSafe 2, I don't really see that it will be all that different. Chance that the new one is 4K are VERY low IMO.

Actually I would wait it out. The Mac Pro is likely to be released in the next couple of months. Given that the current display doesn't match the latest iMacs, Mavericks supports 4k monitors it could all point to a new screen released with the new Mac Pro.
Even if you get the new form factor with reduced glare (important for photographers) and nothing else, it could be worth waiting.

wow.. I'm glad I came here and asked!

I'll wait until the new one is released, weigh out the differences, and either get the new one or buy the current thunderbolt for a reduced price.

Thanks a lotttttt!
