thunderbolt display on macbook pro with mini DisplayPort

Does anyone know if this display will be compatible with MacBook Pros (mid 2010) that have a mini DisplayPort and not the new Thunderbolt port?

No, it will not be. You will need a Mac with a Thunderbolt port.

Hopefully some kind of adaptor will become available. I really want to buy an apple display that will serve me well into the future.

I think the dev kit for Thunderbolt becomes available in September. We might see some adapters being announced and developed after that. For now though, patience is key.
