It's not for everyone, but I wouldn't mind getting a single Thunderbolt drive enclosure that also functions as a dock: GBit Ethernet, audio, USB3, TB.

I know I can cobble one together by buying 2 things and a roll of duct tape, but I am not so keen about the duck tape look. Besides, it may interfere with port connection.

Have you heard of such a beast?

The new Sonnet one will have a a built i 3.5" SATA bay and is exactly what you are referring to.

You are right. I remembered seeing it a while back and almost forgot about it. It's almost what I am looking for. Ideally, I would replace the optical drive with another drive bay, or at least a ssd slot, or remove it altogether.

As it is, the cheapest configuration is $400 for with a DVD±RW Drive. Considering the Kensington dock MSRP at $300, it's competitive.

Still, it's a lot of money for the convenience of having to plug in just one cable and no duct tape.
