Thunderbolt - firewire adaptor

Question. I am using a DAW with Firewire 800. Will I be able to take advantage of the Thunderbolt application using the adaptor for my Pro Tools Digi 003 or will as I suspect there be a bottleneck technically in the conversion? I am going to purchase the new IMAC 27" when it comes out and I am going to configure it with 32 gig. Any input would be helpful. Most DAW's in existence do not have a Thunderbolt input but I suspect they will moving forward
