Thunderbolt -> HDMI -> USB

If I was to buy a Thunderbolt v1 - HDMI adapter and a HDMI - USB adapter, would it pass data correctly, seeing as HDMI is a video standard?
 
To explain why it's no, the adapters are not bidirectional.

One converts Thunderbolt -> HDMI.
The other converts USB -> HDMI

Neither one will work backwards.
