So, I have a late 2013 MBP with Thunderbolt 2. I have a couple of thunderbolt 2 docks and a couple of thunderbolt 2 disk connections. Have a 16 inch 2019 MBP on its way, and am wondering about the performance of the thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter. I understand that the 2 will not perform as well as the 3, but am hoping to understand what kind of performance I CAN expect from it. Mainly how well my thunderbolt 2 docks will perform, and how well my super duper backup via thunderbolt 2 will perform on migrating from it back to my new 16 inch one...

Anyone have any experience or benchmarks on the thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter, or thoughts on whether I should be looking to upgrade my thunderbolt 2 docks to thunderbolt 3?

Thanks in advance....

You can expect Thunderbolt 2 performance, which should be plenty good. You'd see no benefit from upgrading your docks and drives to Thunderbolt 3, and they probably can't even saturate the Thunderbolt 2 connection.

Thanks, cohabit, was just hoping that the performance will equal thunderbolt 2 and not be something less... Sometimes these 'adapters' do not have the same performance levels as the normal interfaces. My primary concern is that migrating from my super duper backup of my late 2013 MBP to my new 16 inch MBP will be as fast as the interface allows.
