I have an external G-Tech RAID 4TB (two 2TB disks) that I use with my nMP.

I was running it as a RAID 0 stripe, for speed (I have everything Time Machined to another volume on a NAS), however I wanted to enable FileVault 2.

I was dismayed to learn that you can't use FileVault 2 on a SW RAID volume.

In todays world where security has become more and more important, I really want ALL of my disks to be encrypted. It's only too often I hear of someone having their machine stolen, and all of their data is therefore compromised.

So, if Apple's SW encryption doesn't work, is there another option that either works on SW RAID, or is there a good HW RAID solution out there that supports encryption of the entire volume via SW or HW?

In the meantime, I broke my RAID into two volumes, and encrypted those, but now I lost half of my disk speed.

The Areca ARC-8050 (and presumably the 8050T2, since it uses the same firmware) works with FileVault 2 encryption. With the exception of something like Drobo, I would expect most hardware RAID systems to work with FileVault.
