Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter gets warm, even when no ethernet is connected

I wonder whether this is a short circuit or something normal. when I attach the adapter alone without anything attached to it, the side of thunderbolt gets warm moderately.

Yes, it gets hot. I was surprised myself but looks like this is a normal behaviour.
