I have the new 2011 MBP 13. I have a mini display port to hdmi adapter and a hdmi cable from the adapter to my Samsung 40" LCD.

The problem is no sound is passed threw to my tv. I had a 2009 before this which I know didn't support audio pass through, but I thought the 2010 model did and now the 2011 model doesn't? What should I try?

You need to go to System Preferences > Sound > Output and select your TV instead of your laptop's built-in speakers. That is assuming the cable is new enough to support audio through DisplayPort (cable needs to support audio transfer as well as the Mac).
