I have a series of high capacity SxS cards that I need to transfer to a Macbook pro (2013) via a SxS USB 3 dock.

It will take hours to do this through my Macbook's USB 2 port. So want to know if there are any adapter/workarounds out there to utilise the speed of the thunderbolt port and speed this up?

Thanks,
Ben

got my caldigit thunderbolt 2 dock for just 169 dollars when they ran the promotion.

I picked up two units and cant be happier. it works really nice.

3 usb 3 ports, 1 network port, 1 hdmi, 2 sata ports and 2 thunderbolt ports for only 169 dollars... oh and audio ports too... what more can you ask... :)

if you need more than one usb 3 ports, you should only use such dock not the dongle solution which only has 1 usb port....

3 usb 3 ports, .

The 3 USB ports is a limitation for many, but there are other docks available for about the same price that have 4, 5, even 6 USB 3 ports, some have FW, some have digital audio interfaces.

That looks to be a ridiculous amount of $$$ for -one- USB port!

Coming from someone who insisted such an item would never exist, and is likely unhappy to be proven wrong, I understand such sour-grapes opining. Regardless, the item does exist for the limited market that can make good use of it. Since any item is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay, and this item is being purchased, it would seem to not be so "ridiculous" to some. The fact that you are wrong in both your prediction and your current assessment is totally irrelevant to whether or not it serves its purpose, so really dude, give it a rest.

I think there also need to be a distinction between "adapter" and "dock". I love the Kanex adapter, use it all the time, a huge help for what I need it for, mainly for the eSATA, especially when my USB3 port are being used. Docks are bigger, less portable, and require power. So yeah, that little Kanex adapter is pretty awesome for what it is.
