Hey everyone - I ordered my new MBP 15" last week and I have been trolling the internet to try and find any sort of news or rumors or ANYTHING to suggest that there will be a thunderbolt to USB3.0 adapter.

some of you may be thinking why the hell would you want that but at the moment there are a lot more usb3.0 peripherals out there than thunderbolt and it would just allow greater usability for my macbook pro.

Seen something? Heard something? please post here I want/need to know!!!

Edit: So it seems like there is another thread dedicated to this but its a bunch of people arguing about usb and thunderbolt. Please do not waste mine and everyone elses time doing this, thanks.
(Also I only read the first page coz it was way to long.)
Another thing- It was mentioned that a mbp refresh COULD include usb3.0 as intel has been looking into it or something - I will be a bit cut if this comes out, would there be any way to install a usb3.0 port IF this does come out?

Thanks in advance!

This seems like an interesting article:

http://www.ecnmag.com/blog/2011/02/connectorcorner/thunderbolt-vs-USB3.0.aspx

EDIT: No, there is no way to install USB3 after you purchased a USB2 Mac, since that would require a new logicboard.

what about the expresscard 34 for 17" MBP - though this is very temperamental from what i heard...

correct me if i am wrong, but it's osx lack of usb software support (in the case of expresscard 34 usb3 ports)... the lacie drivers and expresscard claim to offer one solution, only when coupled with lacie external hdd..and a string of problems

it'll be possible - eventually. the thunderbolt port is essentially an interface to the mainboard's PCI-E bus, so it's definitely possible. if someone is to make a USB 3.0 adapter, they'll have to write their own OS X drivers since the interface isn't native.

Where's the USB3 adapters

With absolutely no Thunderbolt peripherals for the "Rest of Us", and inexpensive USB3 peripherals everywhere, I think that Apple came dressed to the 9's for the dance, but no one will dance with her. All I want is a fast back-up drive for my MacBook Pro. I want an adapter or a drive, that’s all I want. You can get a 1.5 TB USB3 drive at Costco for $100.00. Please Apple don't let us down. I can't wait until 2012 for Intel's Ivy Bridge board with USB3 support.

Exactly...and don't start with the 'USB 3.0' is a bag of hurt' cr*p.
Just release a Thunderbolt to USB 3.0 adapter....PLEASE.

Sonnettech announced a FW800 to Thunderbolt adapter. I wonder
why they didn't announce a Thunderbolt to USB 3.0 adapter instead.
They would have sold more adapters for sure.

Someone needs to make a Thunderbolt docking station that incorporates USB 3, Firewire, ethernet, etc. I would buy one of those in a second.

driver needed?

Having read all these threads I'm still getting confused. But my question is clear-cut:
With a Thunderbolt docking station in a Sandy Bridge Mac would it be possible to use several external normal USB 3 harddisks or only those with an individual mac-driver?

Thanks for any clarification.

Thunderwhat?

EDIT: sorry about that but the situation is so ridiculous it's hard not to make fun :)
