Greetings,
so i have a 2012 iMac here with a 3.4 i7, fusion drive and 680mx.
The thunderbolt ports are not recognised, it says in the system profiler under thunderbolt "no thunderbolt hardware found".
I had this with my other 2012 iMac with 3.2 i5 and 675mx. I installed the thunderbolt update 1.2, did a pram reset and they started working again.
however on my 3.4 i7 machine it simply wont install. It starts installing, then restarts, briefly shows the progress bar which is typical for a firmware update but before the progress bar progresses the machine shuts down abruptly and restarts, thus not installing the update and thus still no thunderbolt ports.
I have been trying for hours, I googled and read probably every thread out there and nothing seems to do the job. I have tried over 20 times now. Someone mentioned online they tried 60 times before it worked, do I need to be that persistent too?
PRAM resets, SMC resets dont change the outcome. I actually have no idea if I am actually resetting he smc because there is no feedback if it worked or not, but I am following the instructions. How do I know if it worked?
Downloading the installer from the apple website yields the same result. And if i try to install from the installer in OSX El Capitan it says the update is not compatible.
repair permissions, repair disks, reinstalling osx (multiple times), trying different osx versions. nothing helps.
I am now going to try running the iMac of a cloned hdd from the other iMac which has the update to check if this is successful.
anyone have a tip I haven't tried? Im really quite frustrated
cheers
