The available Thunderbolt docks/adapters are overkill or not enough for some uses.

An inexpensive USB 3.0 adapter with Thunderbolt passthrough is also needed. Nothing else.

It can just have one USB port if it were quite a bit more expensive with 4 (more that what a reputable but not overpriced 4-port USB3 hub would cost).

Fairly certain this product's manufacturer would still have to pay thunderbolt licensing, there goes "inexpensive" right out the window.

Inexpensive adapters would have to use Intel's lower cost Port Ridge chip, which, as of now, is their low power option. Passthrough is not possible with this chip.

I'm not certain but I believe it's the only Thunderbolt chip that wouldn't require a power supply on the peripheral, such as for an adapter. So low cost/low power requirement = no passthrough.
