TI 800 powerbook combo drive problem

my sister has a powerbook 800 with a combo drive..the problem is that the drive has become very picky in regards to what discs it accepts...i'm wondering if anyone else has heard of this problem...and if so, should i just replace the drive or is it a software issue?...please respond as soon as possible, as to she is leaving back for sydney on friday...thank yo

I'm sorry, I don't know. But from just reading what you wrote, it sounds like a hardware issue to me. If it used to work fine and now doesn't, that probably isn't software, unless you (or your sister) have been installing stuff and changing settings in a big way. You might also try the powerbook forums at discussion.info.apple.com. Hope someone else can offer better insight...
