Had an interesting (aka: crappy) experience with my 667 powerbook on the weekend. I was surfing the web and such as usual when suddenly the screen went black and I noticed smoke coming out of the keyboard

So I quickly unplugged it and pulled the battery, but it was still smoking, so I flipped up the keyboard to see and low and behold it appears my fan is a little bit on fire. Not a lot mind you, I was able to blow it out rather quickly.

To my surprise it boots still so I was able to back up my files, of course the fan no longer goes :(

don't ask for pics other than a tiny piece of singed wire there's nothing to see at all.

Anyone have any ideas of what to do with this thing now? It still works, but with no fan I imagine any more use I get out of it will just be until it completely burns itself out. It's 5 years old and I only paid $300 for it so I'm not really looking to spend more than $100 on repairs.

Yeah, I'm on the same computer now. I think those fans need to be cleaned.

I sold my 550 mhz Ti and got this one -- I like the non DVI screens. I think you can get a new topcase with a new fan in it for cheap.
