Virex is incompatible with Tiger, as apparently is well known (though I discovered it the hard way). But there is a potentially "hidden" problem that I came up against that might well be affecting others:
1) I had Virex in my startup items under Panther.
2) Installing Tiger leaves it there, without giving you any warning of trouble ahead.
3) I then found that PowerBook battery life was almost halved ...
4) Checking Activity monitor showed there was constant 100% CPU activity, with 90% down to VShieldCheck (or something like that). Killing the process, all became well with the CPU activity. Removing Virex from startup items etc., battery life went back to previous levels.
5) So do make sure that Virex is removed from your startup items after (or preferably before!!) installing Tiger.
6) Would it have beyond the wit of Apple to get the installer to remove Virex from the startup items, given the known issues????
(I've seen other related complaints about PowerBooks oddly running hotter -- as was mine with all that CPU activity: may Virex was the trouble!)
