I was looking at a 700MHz G3 iBook w/ 640MB RAM, does anyone know what i would not be able to run on this in tiger because it dosent have the velocity engine that G4s have? IE Quicktime 7, Dashboard, etc

well, i guess that answers my question, but has anyone used their old G3 iBook w/ Tiger yet? how does it compare to Panther? thanks a lot CubaT

I'm not sure of how Tiger would react, but I've read somewhere that it makes it a little faster.
Just be sure to turn off all the pretty but superfluous things like window shadowing, dock animation, and it should probably run fine.

I haven't quite put it on my iBook yet because:
1. I've given the ol' 'book to my brother
2. the version of Tiger I have is a CPU drop-in upgrade disk.

Post what happens! :D

Tiger runs much better on my iBook (G3 800mhz 384mb) than Panther did. Seems a good upgrade for me. I've turned Dashboard off (mainly out of preference) to help things as I felt it was pushing it a bit - especially as there were no fancy effects :). The dock animiations are fine - just as they were in panther.

All my usual iApps have been fine - iPhoto just as zippy with '05. I've not really pushed Quicktime as I don't do much apart from playing vids.

I'd recommend a clean install though. I upgraded my panther and umm I don't know, it didn't feel quite right. With a freshen up though, it's super :p
