I am getting the iBook in the mail today. I will be getting the RAM next week. Should I install Tiger over Jaguar today or should I wait till I get the RAM. I have heard a million mixed reviews on how well Tiger works on 256 (and 640!!!).

Another side question is, If Tiger is too slow for me on 640mb- how easy would it be to downgrade to Panther? Same process (hold down C at startup)?

Thanks!

It won't matter. Either installing Tiger now or after you've installed the extra RAM won't matter a bit. So I'd say just do it now. If anything, though, Tiger will be happier if you wait, as it's a bit more RAM-hungry than Jaguar. And no, once you've upgraded to Tiger, you can't downgrade to Jaguar easily. That would involve a full backup and reinstalling the OS from scratch. Then, later, you copy your stuff back over from the backup. But Tiger runs on any Mac with at least a G3 processor and 256MB of RAM (as can be read here), so you should be fine.

Just figured I'd let you guys know what happened. Put Tiger on it with 256 and it worked, just not as well as I'd have liked. I got a 512 stick in the mail today, popped it in and it's a zippy little machine! I like it. Not as fast or powerful as my HP desktop, but that's not what I wanted with this machine. For 100 bucks, I have a portable blog machine. :) Thanks for the help guys.
