I have a late 2007 MBP running Tiger (10.4.11). I recently purchased a new iMAC that came with SL (10.6.1). I have tried twice to use this DVD to upgrade my MBP from Tiger to SL, but it keeps telling me that OS X can't be installed on this machine. Do I need to use an UPGRADE DVD to actually do the Upgrade? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

David

The Disks that come with new Macs are machine family specific.

Therefore a disc from a 21.5" iMac will only work in a 21.5" iMac.

You will need a retail DVD (legally you will need the iLife/iWork/Snow Leopard multipack) to upgrade.

Got it thanks! So, when I go online to purchase the upgrade set, it never asks for what *family* I have. Are the upgrade disks different?

No they are not, as a tiger user you should buy the upgrade box set, which I think if I remember correctly includes iwork, iLife and Snow Leopard. But there's nothing to stop you from buying the 29 USD one but your breaking the EULA if you do.

retail disks are not (either the $30 upgrade for Leopard users or the box set)
