I recently purchased a Tile tracker Mate + Slim combo pack. My wife has been pushing me to get these for a long time (she's tired of me asking if she has seen my keys, wallet, or sunglasses).
Anyway the combo pack was on sale so I figured I'd give it a shot. So far I love the concept, but the execution is a little hit or miss. I installed the Tile app on my iPhone X and on my Apple Watch S4 (both running the latest OS versions). The Tile app seems a little buggy. It crashed on me while setting up a couple of the trackers, but then seemed fine and recognized the trackers.
At first both the watch and the iPhone saw all the trackers (both the Mate model and Slim) when I was within reasonably close proximity (same room or one room over). The iPhone has consistently been able to see all the Tiles, but the Slim tiles (that have shorter range) sometimes don't appear.
The experience on the Apple Watch was fine at first, but now the Apple Watch will usually find only one or two of the trackers even though all four are within a few feet.
I think it's worse when I'm in a location where my iPhone uses WiFi (at home or at work). Perhaps the watch app communicates directly to the trackers over bluetooth, but when Wifi is on the watch is either disabling Bluetooth or it is relying on the most recent information from the iPhone app? Who knows... the support documentation at Tile is a bit lacking. It definitely feels like a beta product, but I think it will still be useful because at least the iPhone app seems to work pretty consistently... and when it doesn't I can at least see the last location where the tracker was seen.
I'm also doing a free trial of the premium account. That includes 30 days of location history and smart alerts that are supposed to let me know when I leave home or the office without my keys or my wallet. So far the smart alerts have not worked for me at all, but Tile says this feature is still in beta. To be fair I have not been away without my wallet or keys for very long or very far, so maybe it just doesn't kick in instantly (it would be nice to know when I've left something at home before I get too far away though).
Has anyone else had experiences using the Tile trackers with the Apple Watch, good or bad?
