Looking to get a Timbuk2 messenger bag and am deciding between the two listed. This is a super hard decision as I am ordering online and haven't seen either of these in person.

I like the TSA friendly idea of the commute 2.0 and it seems to have many more pockets, but the inward tilting that the flap does looks a bit odd to me, it dosen't quite look like a messenger all around like I am used to.

I really like the look of the D-Lux (although the stripe kinda bugs me) except for there isn't a handle on the top and I find myself using that often on my current messenger. Also, this bag dosent seem to have as many compartments as the 2.0.

Are they both weatherproof?

Incase you have no idea what bags I am talking about but feel like dropping your two cents, here are some pics:

Any insight will help, thanks!

I recently went through this same dilemma. What my decision came down to was two things, storage space and the laptop space. While on the outside they look like they have the same amount of space the d-lux can hold a ton more in its sole inner pocket. If its stuffed full you can loosen up the bottom straps to make it bigger, or sinch them up to make it a smaller feeling bag. The d-lux does not have the partition in it but you can add the gadget accessories to add pockets in there for smaller things like cables, phone, usb accessories, mice etc. Two pockets will set you back 30 bucks. I would estimate that you can put 7-8 full sized books and notebooks in the medium d-lux while in the commuter you can probably only fit 2. Its a big difference. Also in the d-lux your laptop is much safer with the "laptop love glove" red protector. it can take the extra weight and its much more rattle resistant than the corduroy zip down thing the commuter has. The only thing the commuter has over the d-lux is the top handle. I attached a handle from a bag I bought at walmart using a sewing machine and it is by far the best Timbuk2 bag I own. Its my 3rd, i recently went back when the Pategonia bag I just bought fell apart. The strap clips on those bags are useless. Oh and speaking of, this is why I went with the d-lux. There is basically NO WAY the strap could ever break at the clips. Its stitched to the bag in about 4 places on both sides, and has a massive quick release buckle. The commuter has the weak wire/plastic triangle clip that just wont take any weight.

Same problem here; I had to send back a commute 2.0 because the handle was coming off, but I loved what that bag had to offer. Now, though, the color I had is unavailable. Timbuk2 has given me a $140 store credit, and I need one with the laptop sleeve; I'm down to the Commute (again) or the D-lux.

OP, have you made a decision yet?

These are the two I'm debating between....I like the color choices of the commute 2.0, but i'm leaning towards the D-lux. This would be for a 13" MBP and just other random stuff....

I ended up getting the classic messenger 2010 and a quilted laptop case. Saved a few bucks; little more versatile; and a lot more space than the Commute.
