Time Capsule as a non-backup harddrive?

Hi,

Can the new Time Capsule be used as a standard HD too? IE, if I back up everything on my iMac and it comes to 600Gb, could I use the remaining 400gb for standard storage? If so, this device could surely be used as a networked hard drive for average household right?

Yes, it can be used as a normal NAS device as well.
