Looking for confirmation here..

Am I correct in assuming the Time Capsule doesn't support multi-function printer scanning?

I installed a TC last week and am loving it so far. I moved my Photosmart D110 printer to the USB connection on the TC and the scanner option disappeared from System Preferences | Scanner/Printers and my HP software no longer detects the scanner.

Move the printer back to my Mac via USB and it reappears and works.

Running Mavericks on 2013 Macbook Air.

Sounds like the HP driver has to see the printer as part of the local machine file system....not via a remote machine file system such as TC.

It would probably work off a USB port on an ATD.

Prior to plugging the printer/scanner into the TC it was plugged into a windows PC on the wireless network and it scanned fine.

There's something about the TC....

The time capsule has code to support printers, not scanners. If you want a multifunction unit accessible by more than one computer you will need to get one that connects via WiFi and not USB.

hoho Don't I feel stupid!

My printer DOES do wireless and I had it plugged in to the TC via USB.

Unplugged it, configured the wireless settings and now the printer is scanning again.

Do I win the duh? award? :)

I'm pretty sure you aren't even close to winning that award here. You'd have to a lot better (worse?) than that!
