Time Capsule expansion needed

My 1 TB Time Capsule is full and I am wondering if i can either

1) add an additional hard drive to the TC to expand capacity for Time Machine backup, or

2) purchase an additional Time Capsule connect it in series to my existing unit.

Nope. You can't increase capacity. Any hard drives you connect to the USB will be separate drives entirely and you will have to start your backup from scratch. Or you may try to copy the sparsebundle file to the larger capacity drive and see if you can continue your backup from the new drive. Similarly, any new Time Capsules' hard drives will also be viewed as separate drives.
