Hello all,
I just purchased a TC and went through the Airport Utility to set it up. It was pretty straightforward and worked off the bat. I chose the option to add it to my existing wireless network, so now the TC is acting as an wireless extender to my existing Verizon Fios router (Actiontec). My intent was to not serve out DHCP from the TC and let the Verizon router do that. Maybe there is a better way to configure this, but whatever the wizard did seems to be working fine.
My question is this: The Verizon router is 802.11g, the TC inherited all the settings from it (WPA2, keys, and even the name) and supposedly is set up for 802.11n with b and g compatibility.
1. How can I tell which access point I am connecting to as they both appear under one name in the Airport list of networks?
2. How can I tell what speed I am connected over the wireless with? I mean, I could try to transfer a large file and try to figure out the math, but is there a utility or a panel somewhere that can tell me if it is g or n?
3. More importantly, will this work like this, meaning two access points, one with n the other with g, or will the TC downgrade itself to g since it is extending the other router's range?
BTW, I can see both wireless access points in iStumbler transmitting on different channels and of course they both have the same name (as they should, I think).
Thoughts?
