Hi

Does anyone know if there is a reason why, when I plug an external SSD disk formatted to AFPS into my time capsule via the USB connector, I can't seem to get it recognised?

A couple of years ago I plugged in an external spinner into my Time Capsule via the USB and it worked ok.
I can't believe that A: AFPS formatted drives aren't compatible or B: SSDs aren't compatible.

Thanks in advance.

APFS is not compatible with Time Machine - I don't know if you can get it to work with Time Capsule, but Time Machine, no. Time Machine relies on hard linked directory listings as of now, which APFS does not support.

Just to clarify casperes1996

I don't want to use my AFPS SSD for time machine backups - the backup side of things are working perfectly.

I just wan't to be able to plug an external AFPS formatted SSD into the time capsule via the usb and have it recognised as an external drive.

Thanks

Not going to work. The TC firmware has never been updated by Apple to support APFS, so it will not be able to read the drive.

Thanks Weaselboy - From what you are saying would I be right in assuming that if I formatted it to MAC OS Extended it would be recognised?
