I bought a time capsule and set up my laptop to backup to it using the time capsule password. Later, I wanted to change to account-based login so my girlfriend could use time machine with her new laptop. All the files I had on there were no longer visible after I did this. I searched around and couldn't find a solution, but after some trial and error I managed to fix it. I figured I'd post here in case others had the same issue:
-In airport utility, go to Disks -> File Sharing and set "Secure Shared Disks" as "With accounts." Set up your desired account name and password. Update the settings and let the TC restart.
-Then, in finder, log into the time capsule with these credentials and you should see Data and a second volume with your user name. No need to do anything, jsut confirm these are here.
-Now, back in airport utility, go back to Disks->File Sharing and set Secure Shared Disks back to "With Time Capsule Password." Update settings again and restart the TC.
-You can go back in and see all your stuff again. You should also see that there are new folders under Data, called "Shared" and "Users." Move all the files you want to be shared into the Shared folder. Under Users there should be a folder for your user name.
-Find the file for your time machine backup called "xxx.sparsebundle" - mine was named after the name of my computer - get info to verify it is the right size (e.g. very large). Move this file to your user name (e.g. Data/Users/<username>).
-Now in Airport utility, reset file sharing to "With accounts" (the account you set up should still be there). Restart once more.
Now you should be able to mount the disks and see your files using your user credentials. But you need to reset your time machine settings to the new location of your sparsebundle.
-Go into Time Machine system preferences, and click on "Select Disk..."
-Let it locate your disks and select the one that says "My User Account"
-When prompted, enter your user credentials.
-Let it do the backup, and it should find the file and sync everything up.
That's it, it worked for me...hope this helps.
