Time Capsule Issue

Hello, I'm new to using a time capsule and can not seem to be able to use it as an external hard drive. The wifi works perfectly and the capsule shows up under my shared drives however when I try to drag files to it I get an error saying that it requires an admin password and that I need to authenticate. I don't know what it means to authenticate. I read on other forums about turning on file sharing and permissions by using "get info" but when I try to get info it just spins and spins and never retrieves it. It's driving me crazy. Thanks for any help. I have Mavricks if it matter.
