Time Capsule - LAN and WLAN Separate?

Hi,

I've just joined a Time Capsule to my existing wifi network and it's working fine. However, if I try to connect a computer to the LAN port, I can't ping the TC. Is this by design?

Solved: "Extending" the wireless network instead of "joining" it seems to have resolved the issue. I'm not sure why, but it's working.

Because by extending the WAN port is no longer to connect to the modem and allows you to connect as a bridge to the network—AKA it becomes a regular Ethernet jack on a switch.
