Time Capsule mirrored backups and media files ?

Hi, I'm thinking about getting a time capsule but would like to know if what i want to achieve will work before buying it.

I dont want to use the TC for time machine backups....
I want to be able to store all my media files including photo's, movies, mp3's etc on the time capsule and stream them to my macbook when i need to.
I also want to be able to attach a USB hard drive to the TC to create a mirror of the TC's drive so that i have a backup should the TC's HD break..

Is this possible and whats the best way to go about it. The USB drive wouldn't be connected to the TC all the time as i would backup to it about once a week or 2 and then remove it and store it in the safe..

It's possible. From within Airport Utility you can click the "archive" button and TC will copy the contents of its hard drive to an external hard drive.
