so, I'm running a stock 2010 cMP, and a gen 3(?) time capsule. The one that looks like a Mac mini.

Anyway, I replaced the drive in the TC a few months ago. Everything's been fine since the replacement, until this weekend. Now, every day, it performs a full backup (120gb!) it said something about needing to do a full backup to verify something or other. It's a huge drag, any ideas?

Ha, that must be a real drag! I've often found some good clues in the system log when there's a Time Machine problem. If you're running El Capitan you can open the Console application and search/filter for "backupd".

Unfortunately I am totally confused by the system log changes in Sierra and High Sierra and Console doesn't seem to work the same way there. Surely the same info is accessible somehow...

My other idea is just to start over: erase the TC disk and start a fresh backup. :(

I was ready to erase and restart, but I examined my environment to see what had changed, and it ended up it was me. I've been playing a lot of Runescape lately, and usually I exclude the game cache from the backup, but for some reason I did not. After excluding the cache, everything appears to have returned to normal. I think we can blame Russian hackers for this one...
