I am going to get a new MBA.

1) Is the TC what most people use for backup + storage or do they use cheaper usb drives?

2) I have an Epson ink jet printer upstairs which is where I would like to put the TC so that I could print to the printer. My Verizon FIOS comes in near my TV. So I can not connect them with a cable. Will the TC do all that it is claimed to do if I put it upstairs near the printer?

3) what about this refurb option:

Thanks

if you have a need for wireless data and wireless backups, time machine is for you. you can also just use an external hard drive. but this will not back you up wirelessly of course, unless you buy an NAS (network attached storage) but these will run you around the same price as an time machine.

the time machine is a great all in one solution. just plug your printer in the back of the time machine set it up in airport utility on the mba and you're ready to go.
