Hey I'm thinking of getting the 500gb Time Capsule for my new iMac's backups. Should I use a usb or firewire cable for first time backup, then wireless for the scheduled backups after that?

An alternative I've also thought about is just getting the airport extreme (for the wireless access and router) and use my Western Digital external HD. That would save me a few bucks, right?

Any opinions on the subject? Other solutions? Sorry for the newbie questions, but I'm really a Mac virgin...You guys have been pretty helpful so far, though.

Thanks in advance.

You can do the first one wireless or over LAN just be prepared for the first one to take awhile depending on the amount of content you have on your iMac.

Time Capsule

The TC has a small foot print and offers a very simple way to protect your files. You could also plug the WD external into the TC keeping it available for a variety of things. I would go with the TC idea if it were my choice.
