Hi,
tomorrow, I have to decide between 2 alternatives for my new home:
a) install ethernet cables in the house. Unfortunately, I forgot to take care of this when it was possible. Now, it would be really, really cumbersome and expensive (three weeks ago, it would have been no problem).
b) use only wifi instead.
I want to use the network for movie streaming, etc.
The walls are made of wood (with heat insulation). Nearly no doors. 3 floors (open staircase).
Now, I tested the signal strength with my MacBook Pro (2009) and my iPhone 4: The iPhone had 2/3 signal strength to the MBP within the whole house. Of course, it would have been better to use a time capsule for the test. However, there is no power for a Time Capsule yet, so I had to use battery-devices.
My question now is: Can I draw conclusions from that experiment and derive the signal strength of a Time Capsule / iMac or MBP combination? Will the signal strength be identical? Better? Far better?
Any help is very much appreciated!
